New Measure of America Report on Youth Disconnection

In its latest report on disconnected youth in the US, released yesterday at a National League of Cities–sponsored conference in Philadelphia, Measure of America finds a continued improvement in the rates of disconnection, with 1.2 million fewer young people between the ages of 16–24 disconnected from school and the workforce than in 2010. More than a Million Reasons for Hope: Youth Disconnection in America Today also explores the enduring obstacles and challenges preventing this critical population from reconnecting and achieving their life goals.

Most-Read Essays of The Immanent Frame Anniversary Series

To mark its tenth anniversary, The Immanent Frame, the SSRC forum on religion and the public sphere, asked scholars to address a familiar yet persistent question in a series of evocative essays. The “Is this all there is?” series will come to a close this week after more than 90 contributions addressing the question in profound and provocative ways. The most-read essays address AfrofuturismHindu nationalism, and women’s financial empowerment, and interrogate the responsibilities and limits of scholarship in the face of Islamophobia and environmental catastrophe. College and University Fund

The Ohio State University is the 37th and newest member of the SSRC’s College and University Fund for the Social Sciences. Composed of higher education institutions across the US, the Fund provides support to the SSRC to enhance the infrastructure of social science research, catalyze interdisciplinary and cross-institutional collaborations, and support scholarship through fellowships, workshops, and mentorship.

Azeez Olaniyan was a 2017 African Peacebuilding Network fellow. He is currently a senior lecturer in political science and assistant director of the Institute of Peace, Security and Governance at Ekiti State University in Ado Ekiti, Nigeria. His recent article in the African Security Review explores the connection between forestry and insecurity in Nigeria.
